Mantra and Kirtan School

Autumn Retreat - 6th-13th October 2018


Spend a week on retreat in the Portugese autumnal sunshine learning Kirtan singing, Mantra chanting and Sacred Music with one of the UK's more experienced and gifted Kirtan leaders and sacred musicians, Kirtan Pete.

The week will give you the opportunity for daily immersion in the totality of the Bhakti path.

  1. Morning Mantra and devotional chants from the the Sacred Indian traditions.

  2. Evening Kirtan chanting sessions and Pujas (ritual ceremonies)

  3. Workshops in harmonium playing, voice development, singing, drumming (djembe and tabla),

         and also Guitar, Ukelele and Indian Sitar if of interest.

  1. Workshops in the rudiments of music, both eastern and western styles.

  2. Workshops on learning the well known mantras, the powerful Matrika and Bija mantras, and also some less well known ones that bestow special siddhis and speed up awakening !

  3. Satsangs on the origins and teachings of Bhakti yoga, kirtan and mantra.

  4. Yoga asana and breath work for those that wish to partake.

  5. Silent periods to assimilate the experience of working with mantra and also to develop listening skills.

All welcome, no musical experience necessary, just a keen desire to learn and take part ! By the end of the week everyone will be empowered sufficiently to lead kirtan with the instrument of their choice to the extent they wish. This retreat is none religious, but will obviously be using mantras and teachings from the various Indian systems of philosophy, yoga and music. All musical instruments supplied.

To mark the completion of phase 1 (renovating the main building) of Vagarosa Ashram, we are offering this first ‘ Mantra & Kirtan school ’ retreat at the amazing price of £495. This includes accommodation, vegetarian food and pickup from local railway station with connections to either Faro or Lisbon airports.
